Hello, and welcome to an impromptu conversation that I recorded with a new friend,
. Amos grew up Catholic, de-converted to agnosticism as a teenager, reconverted to theism of a yet-to-be-determined variety as an adult, and is currently studying theology & philosophy at Oxford – where he is exploring the wide world of apologetics.Amos has come to believe that out of all the major religions, Hinduism is most likely to be correct & true, with Christianity coming in a close second-place. This position is contra to that one of Amos’ other friends,
, a notorious continental-philosophy-hater and rationalist über alles. As a Tamilian Brahmin who grew up singing in Lutheran Church and who is, at this point in time, a solid member of Church of The Nazarene, I of course wanted to dig into Amos’ theological journey. Spiritual seekers like us must try to find God wherever, whenever, and whichever ways He exists.
Please enjoy our exchange!
A couple of resources we references during the show:
The doctrine of divine simplicity, which ultimately caused Amos to de-convert because he was not willing to assent to it
The argument from psychophysical harmony, which ultimately proved Amos that God is real. (There is a part two, as well!)
The “Sleeping Beauty Problem”, which, when generalized through induction, provides a high probability for the reality of re-incarnation.
P.S. – I spent way too much time, and had way too much fun, creating the art for this post.
