Today, I have the pleasure of sharing a conversation with a dear friend I made this year, Andrew Dunn.
Andrew and I share many things in common, but probably of most import is that we are both “technologist burnouts.” Both of us were able to climb high on the ladder in the competitive world of innovative technological entrepreneurship early on, only to find ourselves at a place where our integrity and vitality were complete knocked out of us. Now, we are both trying to find a way to not just build humane technology but to become humane technologists.
To that end, the way I met Andrew was through a course he ran called Embodied Ethics in the Age of AI through an organization he has spun up called the Wise Innovation School. The way I would describe his project is as a mystic laboratory where modern high-powered computing, ancient wisdom traditions, animism, rigorous physical science, compassionate ambition, and meta-modern spirituality all meet together at one conference table.
And this is in fact part of of this project’s magic – that it intentionally lives in the “spaces between.”
In this chat, we cover what was so meaningful about this course in a world that seems bereft of magic, and is unable to provide our industrial and mechanical lives a sense of wonder and enchantment.
